Bowls, Brushes & Big Feelings: Khao at the Affordable Art Fair

Updated: Nov 27

If you told us that some of the best “art” at the Affordable Art Fair would come in a bowl, we’d probably blush… and then hand you a spoon.

This year at the fair, Khao was one of just four lucky vendors invited to GastroPark. With limited food options and a whole lot of hungry art-lovers walking around, we knew we had to bring our A-game (and our A+ bowls).

Spoiler: our Spice-Kissed Chicken Bowl totally stole the show.

A Fair Full of Firsts (and Seconds… and Thirds)

The Affordable Art Fair is all about making art feel accessible, it’s for the first-time buyers, curious visitors and  people who “just came to look” and end up leaving with something they love.

Turns out, the same energy applied to our food, whether it was a first time customer or our regulars who spotted us and beelined to the counter.

The atmosphere was electric, a mix of fresh canvases, clinking cutlery and that perfectly chaotic buzz you only get when great taste meets good vibes.

The Star of the Show: Spice-Kissed Chicken

Every fair has a headliner. At GastroPark, it was our Spice-Kissed Chicken Bowl.

Bowl after bowl left the counter and somehow kept coming back in new hands. Our in-house sauce brought the warmth, salad brought the crunch, and that just-right kick of spice kept people hooked. And the balance made it a win for both taste buds and bellies.

By the end of the day, Spice-Kissed Chicken wasn’t just our bestseller; it was basically having its own little fanclub.

Little Stories, Big Smiles

What made the fair really special? The tiny, heartwarming moments in between the rush.

1. The Kids Who Turned Into Superfans

A family stopped by “just to get something small” for their kids. They tried the bowl… silence for a moment… then happy munching.

Next thing we know? They were back for five more bowls. When kids approve and ask for seconds (and thirds and fourths), you know you’re doing something right.

2. The Everyday Exhibitor

One of the exhibitors discovered Khao early on and then we started seeing them every single day.

At one point they looked at us and said:

“You’ve given us the best taste and value here.”

Honestly, we’re framing that in our hearts.

3. When Word-of-Mouth Becomes the Best Ad

Our favourite kind of marketing? People talk about us when they think we’re not listening.

There was a customer who showed up at the counter and said they came over after hearing others rave about “that bowl at GastroPark”. They followed the hype and left with a very clean, very empty bowl.

Looking Ahead: More Art, More Bowls, More Khao

Being one of only four vendors at GastroPark was a big honour and a big responsibility. We’re so grateful for everyone who stopped by, took a chance on a bowl, recommended us to a friend, or came back again (and again).

We left the Affordable Art Fair with a strong belief that good food is absolutely a form of everyday art. Khao can’t wait to be part of more events like this where the colours aren’t just on the walls, but also in the bowls.
