Where Flavours Meet Friendship: The GWU Year-End Gathering at Khao

We were honoured to host the vibrant alumni community of The George Washington University for their year-end gathering at Khao, Funan — an evening that beautifully blended meaningful conversations, heartfelt reflections, and the joy of sharing a good meal together. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and full of energy as graduates from different years and backgrounds came together to close the year on a memorable note.

A Curated Khao Experience

To welcome guests, our team prepared a thoughtful selection of starters that highlighted the essence of Khao’s culinary philosophy — bold, balanced, and wholesome. The menu featured delicately seasoned roasted fish, our aromatic and flavourful roasted spice chicken, and a wholesome veggie patty crafted specially to ensure our vegetarian attendees felt equally included. These starters set the tone for the evening, offering a warm and flavourful introduction.

As the night progressed, guests were served our Khao Tasting Bowls, a customised event-friendly format inspired by our signature dishes. These bowls captured the heart of Khao’s flavours while allowing guests to sample multiple combinations throughout the evening. Compact, convenient, and full of character, they quickly became a favourite, a reminder that great food doesn’t need complexity, only honesty and intention.

A Moment of Inspiration with Our Founder

One of the standout moments of the evening was the address by our founder, Karan. He shared his personal journey and inspiration behind building Khao, how the idea was born, the vision and values that shaped it. His reflections on entrepreneurship, building a purpose-led business, and creating a community-centric dining experience resonated deeply with the alumni present.

His talk added a thoughtful layer to the celebration, inviting guests to reflect on their own journeys while also understanding the passion that fuels everything we do at Khao.
